Introduction

Tech Arch Logo

This document is an attempt to produce an integrated design system for 2300AD. Its purpose is to allow the design of all manner of Ground Vehicles, Robots, Starships and so on with a consistent technological framework. For ease of reading, the term "craft" will be taken to be any vehicle, robot, remote, starship et cetera.

Although this document can be used with just the basic 2300AD rules, the Naval Architect's Manual ( published in the Star Cruiser box and not to be confused with the forthcoming Traveller product of the same name from Imperium Games ), the Ground Vehicle Guide and the Earth/Cybertech manual may be useful.

Errata

As I am only human ( as Sally, my fiancée, consistently reminds me ) I have no doubt made some errors within this document. If you find one, please feel free to gloat and contact me so I can correct it and feel really bad about it afterwards ...

Units

This design sequence uses S.I. units. If you are unfamiliar with this system, then you may find the following conversions useful -

SI or Metric Unit Imperial Units
Millimetre 0.0394 Inches
Centimetre 0.3937 Inches
Metre 3.2808 Feet
Metre 1.0936 Yards
Metre 0.5468 Fathoms
Kilometre 1093.6133 Yards
Kilometre 0.6214 Miles
Kilometre 0.5396 UK Nautical Miles
Kilometre 0.5400 International Nautical Miles
Square Metre 10.7636 Square Feet
Square Metre 1.1960 Square Yards
Square Kilometre 247.0983 Acres
Square Kilometre 0.3861 Square Miles
Cubic Metre 35.3134 Cubic Feet
Cubic Metre 1.3079 Cubic Yards
Gram 0.0353 Ounces ( 1 Oz = 28.3496g )
Kilogram 2.2046 Pounds (lb or lbm)
Kilogram 0.1575 Stone ( 1 stone = 6.3503 kg )
Ton / Tonne 0.9842 UK Tons
Ton / Tonne 1.1023 US Tons ( Short Tons )
Watt 0.0013 horsepower ( hp )
Kilowatt 1.3410 horsepower ( hp )
Megawatt 1341.0219 horsepower ( hp )
Newton 0.2248 pound-force ( lbf )
Joule 0.2388 Calories

Note that throughout this document, "1 ton" is used to represent 1000 kg of mass.

Some Useful Constants

JavaScript Worksheet

I have added a JavaScript Worksheet to the Technical Architecture. Wherever you see the [Java Worksheet] symbol, you can jump straight to the relevant part of the WorkSheet and perform the calculation without fumbling with your calculator. At least, that's the theory - I haven't finished updating all of the pages with this yet.

Currency

We will use the French Livre for all prices within this document. Exchange rates in 2300AD have only ever been defined for the American Dollar and the German Taler ; To aid in converting prices for designs to these currencies, I have provided the following table -

Livre Dollars Talers
1.00 1.25 1.33
0.80 1.00 1.06
0.75 0.94 1.00

Hence Lv 1234 is equivalent to about $1542.50 which is 1641.22 Talers.
